Angelina Jolie and Daughter Vivienne Now Have Matching Tattoos

In a new interview, actress Angelina Jolie revealed that one of her most recent tattoos is shared with her 16-year-old daughter Vivienne, commemorating their work together on the Broadway musical The Outsiders. Jolie co-produced and had Vivienne work as her assistant on the project.

“I got ‘Stay Gold’ with my daughter Viv during our time with The Outsiders,” Jolie said in CR Fashion Book. “It means so much to us separately and together.”

The new tattoo was first visible in April, coinciding with the opening night of the show. The musical includes a song titled “Stay Gold,” which is also an important phrase in the book. It refers to youth and fleeting moments in life in the beloved novel written by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders won four Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Lighting Design, and Sound Design.

The story follows a group of teen boys living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1967, struggling with growing up and local gang fights that erupt into dramatic violence. The story was also adapted for film by director Francis Ford Coppola.

The mother-daughter duo appeared on the Today Show in June and spoke with anchor Hoda Kotb about how Vivienne directed Jolie to the story.

“She did,” Jolie affirmed when asked if her daughter gave her the idea. “But I think that’s to say for anybody watching and anybody who is going to see this and what they brought forward…this is about family. And the same reason it responded to her and the same reason she wanted me next to her watching it and the same reason we all hugged when I came out here is because this is about family.”

This is not the only tattoo that Jolie shares with her kids. She said in the same interview that she had a bird tattoo that “some” of her six kids have as well.

“There is also a bird that I share with some of my children that is personal to us,” she said.
